Truck is an 06 f-350 with 80,000 problem free miles till today.
I was headed down a town rd getting ready to make a turn into a gas station and truck surged a bit , Filled up and headed out truck ran fine till the next stop about 10 miles away.
Started backing up and it started surging pretty bad then check engine light came on. shut it off and waited 10 minutes. It fired right up and ran fine for the 15 miles home. I disconnected the batteries to reset CEL . Started right up light went out and I drove it for an hour pretty hard and it didnt miss a beat, ran like new .. So anyone have a clue what happened?? Sorry for the long story here .
Oil was changed about 300 miles ago with rottela 10-30
Fuel filter about 7000 mileas ago
ALLways motorcraft filters since new
I didnt have a code reader so no codes, EGR has never been touched.
Truck had 1/4 of a tank when I topped off.
If the EGR could cause a stumble I will check there first.
I will do a search to find out the proceedure and to see if I need any gaskets or O-Rings to service the EGR. Thanks for the input here
Welcome to FTE OHSIX6OH The guys were so eager to help you they forgot to say Hello.....
Usually the EGR sticking will show symptoms under acceleration. The ICP (Injector control Pressure) sensor could be the culprit as High Binder mentioned. Read through the Tech Folder, any other questions feel free to ask.
Thanks for the welcome. Made it to the tech folder and its like learning a new language lol with all the icp, ficum and so on . Took a bunch of notes from the hundreds of posts on egr's I think I can handle that task just fine. Off now to investigate this ICP thing. Nick
I don't think it's part of the problem but these trucks like 5W-40 better than 5W-30. These engines shears the oil down pretty quickly so it's best to start with a little heavier oil.
When you pull the EGR valve to clean it, also clean the EBP tube and the MAP sensor hose.
And while it's out check for signs of moisture in the manifold. That could indicate a leaking egr cooler which isn't the problem but your already there.
Thanks for the info. Took it for a nice ride today and its running perfect. I do plan on cleaning the egr this week when i get some new o-rings and gasket,Plow season is coming quick and It has to be 100% .
Barnbridge I am in Maine thats why I chose the rottella 10/30 ,Think I would be ok with a 40 wt ? gets below zero up here at times.
Happy Halloween everyone !!!
