Now I am wondering if I were to try using some ratchet straps from one corner of the bed to the other if that would do anything...I am going to try it after I get ride of all my leaves.
Quack, I was going to post the same answer. When I added the fiberglass topper, it was much better. A few yrs ago I also added a fuel/tool box to the bed, and it pretty much went away. Click on my name to see pix of the 05 with it.
So I tried the strap theory and that did nothing. I was going to get the bilstein shocks, but then I noticed that Rancho has the promo going on for the free wireless controller with the 9000 shocks...so I ordered them and plan on having them installed this coming week. I got the quick lift for the front, because I plan on changing the tires to the 295/70 nitto trail grapplers if this does not help.
I wonder if the roll-up cover I put on my truck does the same for cross bracing. This might explain why I never saw it shake because the cover was installed 1 day after owning the truck. I actually bought it a few days before I picked the truck up so that it would be ready to install right away.
Drew,
I've noticed that in the past two weeks with my rollup cover that I also have less shake than before. I'm sure that the rails being clamped down, as well as the cover being snugged and closed at the gate has some cross bracing effect.
What exactly are you seeing when you experience the bed shake? Is it the whole bed and rear of the frame shaking, or is it the sheet metal of the bed flexing? There are basically two factors you can influence Stiffness and Mass. Adding the straps should have increased the stiffness of the bed, but I think you would have really had to crank down on them to make a significant change. If its the rear end and entire bed, it has to be a shock or leaf spring issue.
The other thing you should check is the mass damper attached to the frame under the rear drivers side of the bed. It's about the size of a peanut butter jar. It has rubber mounts and should have some elasticity to it when you twist it.
Got the rear ranchos put on and it is a big improvement...have them set on two. I have to take it in to a shop to do the front tomorrow. Very happy so far.
