Question Okay, Need Some Timing Advice (Please)

I installed the msd 6A on the 1995 f150 with a 302. What does my timing need to be on the truck? My buddy set it initially, but under full power I hear what sounds like a "pinging" at around 3500RPM. Does this indicate that too much fuel is being inject or too little at the right time? Any info please. THANKS!!

Factory timing spec is 10deg btdc, be sure to remove the spout plug to disable conputer advance when setting it.

He is correct. Factory timing is 10 degrees BTDC. Definitely unplug the SPOUT. You can usually advance it a little to about 12 or so with out problems. I hope you realize that the MSD box is not going to gain you much of anything.

Same as above , but now that you have the 6A box , you could get the MSD timing controler so you can adjust the timing with the turn of a **** from inside the cab of the truck 130 bucks ....Lew

I hate to hijack this thread but I'm sort of in a rush and can't figure out how to open a new post, so I apologize in advance.

I have a 1995 ford f350 xl 5.8

I desperately need the part# for the under hood engine wiring harness, mine is all burnt up and I called the dealer and no luck. And does anyone know where I can find one?

Can someone please help me out.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Pinging at full throttle could be caused by too little fuel, carbon build up, low octane fuel or too much base timing. Anyone or combination of those items can result in pinging.

You are hijacking this thread. There is no complete wiring harness available from Ford anymore. You will need to source a harness from a salvage yard.

In This Case I Probably Have It Advanced Too Far. I Will Undo The Spout, & Plug In The Timing Light. Is It Really Necessary To Run 93 Octane With The MSD 6A Ignition System?

Who said you had to run premium fuel with the MSD ignition? You shouldn't have to do that. I will say that mine has always run better with mid grade.
