I have had the alternator whine problem since I got the truck and have yet to get it fix..Yeah I know I'm a procrastinator. Anyway I'm thinking about switching out my alternator for a higher output one to cope with the power the plow and the subs/amp consume.
1. How difficult is it to switch out the alternator? I read a step by step and it sounded pretty easy but my only real question would be removing the belt as I'm not sure how to go about this.
2. Would adding a higher output alternator have any negative effects on the battery or other electrical components in the truck?
3. And finally where should I go to buy one of these I have searched google and have found a few websites but they look a little sketchy. I was thinking maybe Napa would be my best bet, any suggestions?
Run a search on the forums because someone else was doing this about 2-3 months ago. I don't have any great information for you about this but I remember reading that there should be no negative problems with upgrading the alternator and if you got the right one it mounts right back onto the original bracket.
