I have a 95 F-150 Regular Cab. There is a noise coming from underneath the drivers side floor by the foot panel. I beleave the noise is locate in the left front wheel well area. I thought it was my radial arm bushings so I replaced it, but the noise was still present. You here the noise when driving and hitting bumps and such. It sounds exactly like the radial arm but it can't be? I checked the exhaust system to see if anything was lose and it wasn't. I also raised the front end up and the front left tire had no movemnt to it so tht seems fine? Any idea of what it could be???
Check to make sure none of the crossmember bolts are loose. Also, someone posted here a while ago that he found the bolt (nut?) at the bottom of the spring was loose and causing a clunk.
I am gonna clear up a few more things with my truck. It is 2WD and has a brand new radial arm bushing on the left front side. I am positive it is not that (i hope). I checked the tire and lug nuts it they seemed fine. I also checke for any movement to the tire thinkin maybe the ball joints were bad but the tire had almost no movent horizontaly or verticaly. I checked aroudn the whole area for anyting that would be loose :S The steering arm had a lil movment to it but i think it is ok...it seems everything should be operating just fine but i get in and drive and there it is, just that side when i hit a bump u here a definate rattling, exactly yhe same noise the radial arm bushing make when there are bad????
I've been having the same problem for the last 2 years. I still can't find what is doing it?? I've asked many times about it on these forums, and I have yet to fix it. Maybe some more ideas will surface.......
OK so now we got 2 guys with the same problem and no one has an naswer...SOMEONE HAS TO BE SMARTER THAN US AND HAVE AN IDEA HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Find a road with a series of bumps that will cause the noise. Go over it and see what it sounds like. Then go over the same bumps with your foot lightly on the brakes and see if the noise is gone. If it is you could have loose brake pads due to a missing anti-rattle clip or loose calipers.
gosh darnN'IT I FIXED IT FINALY!!! I went underneath my truck one last time and just tightened the hell out of any bolt or nut i could find! I beleave the one that fixed the noise was the nut holding the spring. I got about one full turn on it and the noise is gone!!!
HELL YEAH!!!
IT WAS BUGGIN THE HELL OUT OF ME BUT NO MORE!
Hope this helps anyone else who had the same problem!
Sounds like a problem I had on my '83. When I finally solved the mystery noise it was coming from the lower shock mount. There was a VERY small amount of play. I replaced the bolt and sleeve through the bushing at the bottom of the shock and tightened them up good and the noise was gone. )The bolt was very slightly worn and the sleeve was slightly elongated.) Hope this helps someone.
Having same problem with my 96 F350. I thought it might be the right radial arm bushing also so I bought the kit to replace it this weekend. I will check the spring retention nut and shock mounts also to see if it is either. I checked for radial and axial play on the wheels as the previous writer mentioned and also found none. I'll follow up with my findings.
