I am having some problems with my truck starting with the right key. Yesterday I went to go to the store with my expy and went to start it with the chipped key and the anti-theft light keep flashing and it would not start. I have a normal key that I use to just unlock the doors so I tried to start the truck with that key, it fired right up and I went to the store. When I get back from the store it will not start with the normal key so I try the chipped on and it starts, this cycle has happened like three times now. Any suggestions?
From your discription I think your ECM might be going as it should'nt start with a key that is not chipped. On the other hand if your truck has a remote starting system the installer may have bypassed the PATs.
It does have a after market keyless entry system that stopped working a couple of weeks ago. I was wondering if that possible had something to do with it. If I disconnect the keyless could it help me tell if it is the ECM or not? Is there anyway to test and see if it is the ECM?
The only thing I can think of would be to completely remove the aftermarket keyless system and try the original key. I have a Cobra remote start system and what's happening to you is something that worries me. You haven't replaced your ECM have you?
I think the first thing I would do is remove the remote start system and try it. Most shops just use the quick splices for installation and shove the whole module up in the corner, out of sight.
