I just traded my 92 Ranger do to needing more space for a 89 Bronco 4x4 it has 135000 miles and seems to run well. Well I took a piece of velcro off the instument panel to find the check engine light flashing intermintantly. I immediatly check the oil and it was 1/2 quart low, put more in and the light is still flashing. I have been told don't worry to much as long as it has oil and water. And to just remove the light bulb. It is just a small useless oxygen sensor. Well I didn't like that advice and I have been posting question and information on The Ranger forums for quite some time and tehy always wee helpful and when My son needed info for his 86 Bronco you helped me than so here I am. I has been harped on and jumped from what I found out from some other local person.I founf that our after the trade ofcourse. The tires also bind up when I turn to the right. It has 31's on it and is stock.
Do the tires bind all the time when turning right? It doesn't happen after it's taken out of 4wd does it? As for the codes, my local Autozone will get the codes for free--Maybe yours will do the same. If not check out broncodata.com.
There a ton of things that could be causing your check engine light to be on. Did you click on that link that I posted? It tells you how to check your codes and has a code list so you know what the code means.
They've stopped supporting all systems before OBD-II because it's the first one that's standardized across ALL manufacturers. Older systems are not only different from one mfr. to another, but even one model to another, so it requires specific equipment and knowledge that you just can't afford at the prices they charge for Taiwanese parts.
