NEED IDEAS AND HELP

I was needing info on installing a Paxton style supercharger onto my 1987 f-250 6.9l diesel in the location where the a/c compressor was and driving it with just the v-belt. I could fab all the tubing. Mostly needing to know if and how well this setup would work as to boost and power to run. Just like superchargers better than turbos. Thanks in advance for any info or help.

It would probably be easier to use a GMC 8V71 blower than the Paxton type.

No i don't want somthing that large. Looking for something like the Paxtons that were added to so many 5.0l Mustangs for so long in the 80's and 90's. Small enough to fit where the a/c compressor was.

Rethink the turbo.

Banks Power | 83-93 Ford - 6.9 & 7.3L>>Sidewinder® Turbo System

ATS Turbo Kits

and a host of others by searching "6.9 ford turbo".

And a search by "6.9 ford supercharger":

Supercharged 6.9L - Diesel Forum - TheDieselStop.com

skip forward to post 18 for "the answer".

Another find is talk and pictures:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...ercharger.html

And then the results go right back to turbos.

IMO, you are up against it here, as you will be pretty much on your own, and you must know it's been tried before and unless you can discover the "deal killer"* and overcome it, you will be poorer for the effort without much to show....

*such as parasitic loss, size of the supercharger required to gain any boost, a drive system, I'm sure there are more.

They work fine on Detroits, so there is no reason they won't work. But making it practical and affordable--that's another issue.

Good luck with it.

Nearly all of the new style superchargers are nothing more than a turbo with a gear drive added so it has a positive boost at a given rpm. No matter which way you go there will be a lot of plumbing involved. Just remember that all of the belt driven chargers use horsepower to gain more horsepower and the turbo makes power from the waste gasses from the engine. Therefore the turbo gives free horsepower while the others require horsepower to make power. Its your time, money and work, think about it.

Just don't like the idea of a big hot piece of metal setting basically on top of the motor i.e. turbo. Thanks for all your input.
