5.4 Y-Pipe Recall

I have a 2009 F250 with 5.4. I received a recall notice the other day. It said something about a y-pipe having cracks in it. I'm not sure what it's talking about. Anyone familiar?

Have not heard of the recall, but the Y-pipe is a component of your exhaust system. It combines the output of the engine exhaust from both sides of the engine into one pipe.

My mistake, I just found the paper they sent to me. It isn't a recall, but instead they have extended the warranty of the y-pipe to 11 years 120,000 miles.

It says that under certain circumstance that the catalyst y-pipe can deteriorate causing audible exhaust noise or check engine lights.

Does the letter state other years which this warranty will extend? I have a 2006 ford F250 (5.4L) and my Y-pipes makes a lot of noise after I drive it.

Thanks,

Thanks,
It looks like 2008-2010. If you google "ford 10m05 recall" a few links down you can read up.

What does it sound like? Hard to believe Ford has been making this engine for 10+ years and still has this problem.

On my 2006 Ford F250 the Y-pipes will crackle when it get really hot and when you stop driving you can hear it even more when its cooling off.

You're probably hearing the heat shield.

A little warning about this recall, I had my truck looked at about two weeks ago when they fix the front dust seal issue. They claimed I had no problem with my exhaust system, but for some strange unknown reason When I got in my truck to drive away, everything needed to be reset clocks sync MP3 catalog, and I noticed the truck was running totally different , the drive by wire felt like it was learning all over again which would make me think they flashed the engine. I went back that same day and asked them, And of course they denied ever flashing the truck. When I asked why everything had to be reset? They sort of looked at each other like oops we got caught. Now I have a truck that's getting an average of 7 miles a gallon 12 at best, I'd like to know what they did to keep this y pipe from burning out. My brother says I'm paranoid, it's probably just the winter gas, but I don't know? I'd recommend you ask them before they touch your truck if they're going to flash it or not, take care

I don't know how a reflash would affect the y-pipe. Sometimes they will unhook the battery just as a precautionary measure when messing with the truck.

Mine never gets over 8 MPG

actually that's not quite right, if you read the recall letter they will replace the pipe if needed, and also update your engine control management system free of charge. My truck was averaging 13 to 16 highway. I can't get over 9 mpg they did something and trust me I watch my gas mileage at every fill up this radical difference just occurred after their service inspection, as they like to call it.

I see that in the letter. I'm just trying to figure out how that would affect the y-pipe. Please keep me posted if you figure anything out.

yet another reason to stay away from the dealer service dept unless absolutely necessary.
