I'm in the process of replacing the front cab supports and floor pans in my '66 Ford F100. I'm using repro parts from Dennis Carpenter. My question pertains to Ford's original poor design of the front cab supports capturing water/dirt and rusting out so badly. I've done the usual metal prep, prime, and paint on the cab supports, but what's the best thing to do for rust prevention? Is it better to allow plenty of air flow through the cab supports or seal the crap out of them with sealant, expanding foam, etc.?
I primed and painted the inside. Then sealed vent holes with 3M sealer and used Eastwood Heavy Duty Anti Rust. The original way it was done from the factory didn't work so I thought the way I did it was the best. Live in MN so I don't use it in the winter or on roads that have been salted.
