2011 tuning
On another note, I was at a dyno event today and a Ford beta user ran his 6.7. Best of 3 runs was 346/671. He indicated that he recently had another flash (he's been through several) and was wondering if it was an experimental higher hp flash. From what I was able to get out of him, Ford doesn't provide him with any details and he has to report his progress quite often. The truck is used for cross country pipeline work and has been out in the field 6 months longer than they have been available to the general public.
My '11 model is extremely sluggish, and I for one can't wait for another reliable tune. For $75K I expected more...not that I'm unhappy with Ford.
It's just a less visceral experience than I expected, as far as acceleration goes. But every other category has been improved upon over my previous mount.
Pretty nice job Ford. Thanks!
No I would say it's so I can get 14mpg pulling vs. 9mpg and run far lower exhaust temps and most likely extend the life of my motor – that’s why. The fact that I can tow more, go faster it’s just a side effect. It gets to be what's the point why even buy a diesel - any brand? When the first thing you really need to do is trash thousands of dollars of emissions equipment just to make the thing run right. Sorry not bashing – it’s not a brand thing all companies have the same thing going on with the government right now. They make these great motors and then need to neuter them – it’s really insane.
I had a lot of the mods you list in your sig on my F350 and it totally transformed the truck (in a good way). Well I'm off to the off road place now, to install my warranty-killing AFE air filter mod! And it's snowing like crazy!!!
I had 7.3 at one time - great motor. This is my second max. Don't know if I could stomach going back to 'governmant motors' in the future. Great truck but - you know - principal and all.
It'll be awhile before I trade up but Ferds are at the top of my list. Just checking in to see all what garbage is on this motor I'd have to change.
If you need help with your stock exhaust I'm awesome with a reciprocating saw.
Got a lot of compliments on that exhaust. I wonder when MBRP will have something for the '11's? It looks a lot more convoluted underbody, with these new systems.
I too loved my 7.3! And my 6.0!!
Can't wait to kill all this environmental BS on my work truck. I guess the forces of darkness never sleep! Just have to stay a step ahead of them.

I checked out '11 350 like yours - but all black - very nice. I actually like'm a bit better now.
Emissions - I get mad just thinking about it.

Not trying to rant Im not a scientist so my facts may be way off and If im wrong Ill be the first to apologize. I truly feel using less fuel is far better for the environment then trying to burn it cleaner.

removing that "emission stuff" increased your pollutant output by a LOT more than 10%. So, you're actually using less oil but putting out far more pollutant. If you are honestly concerned with your consumption of oil, just run B10... and you'll use 10% less fossil fuel

I think a lot of people just want an excuse to get more power and pay less for fuel, so they blame the "environmental punks in washington". I'm not one of those punks, but I do realize the impact we have on our environment. and it's not about global warming... if you've ever visited LA or new york and experienced smog, you know what I mean. it's nasty stuff. and sure, I could remove my exhaust system completely and it wouldn't have an observable impact on the environment in my lifetime... but it's contributing to a problem that my great-grandchildren will have to deal with. It's not like I'm saying we should drive hybrids or anything... they just cause a different kind of pollution. Go google the effects of manufacturing and recycling or disposing of hybrid batteries.
I guess my point is just that if we can have a truck that gets 22mpg on the highway and has 800 lb/ft of torque while still being one of the cleanest diesels around, then I'm all for it. Why mess with a good thing?
I think there are a lot more factors to this then we realize. The production of fuel itself is one. The transportation of that fuel the, machinery to refine it and so on. I dont like government sticking their noses in places where I dont believe they belong. It bothers me when EPA wants to demand all vehicles maintain a certain mpg (yes diesel trucks including semis will be included in this) yet they want reduced emissions as well. Costs Ford and other auto makers millions in research and development to do this and in turn the cost is passed on to us as consumers and the ripple effect begins. Just take a drive around where Im from (Detroit) and see the huge empty parking lots outside of all the auto plants and you'll know what I mean.
Im not into destroying the environment and I apologize if I came across harsh. Im just sick of Uncle Sam controlling more and more of my hard working everyday life.
I would love to run some bio in my truck, just cant seem to find a station here in Detroit.
I agree a truck with 800lb of tq and 22mpg is sufficient. Just wish I had 60k to go and get one. For now Ill enjoy my polluting 6.4 with 1000lb of tq and its 18mpg. A lot better then 650 and 13.
To each his own and I respect your view

If the government didn't regulate the *production* of fuel, would you be happy running 25-30 cetane fuel getting worse economy and less power? or if they didn't tax it, would you be happy traveling on some horrible roads?
Some day, I think people (not us, we'll probably be long gone) will look back and ask "WTF were they thinking allowing people to drive engines that got less than 50mpg on the highway and put out actual carcinogens that we are still breathing?" At that point, people will complain about the *lack* of regulation by today's government. Of course, that's speculation... but it doesn't take a very powerful imagination to see it happening.
