Couple days ago truck was accelerating through the gears and when it hit 4th...NOTHING. Revs went up but trucked slowed down. I kicked overdrive off, and it shifted back into gear. Tested it again, and sure enough, overdrive was gone. Trans. didn't give any indication that it was going and 1-3 and reverse still work fine. I figured it was a sensor or servo not telling fluid to go to a specific clutch but when I hooked up my MAC mentor, no codes. And the overdrive light isn't flashing. Took it to Ford, they hooked up, pulled no codes and ran all electrical and pressure tests and they passed. They are telling me it's either the intermediate clutch or the one way sprague clutch and that I'm gonna need a rebuild or a reman. Should I take it to another shop for a second opinion or does it look like I'm getting ready to eat a couple grand on a reman?
Well, it seems like you did loose OD. You didn't mention how many miles, etc. Did you check your fluid level? It's be worth just flushing the trans, and putting in new fluid and see what that does. Cheaper than a reman, but more than likely, od is gone.
That is exactly what happened to mine. The dealer described it as a snap ring breaking. They said that the snap ring broke and caused all that problem. The other thread said a clip, but I know it is talkin about the same thing. I have no idea what It would have cost me, my truck was ford certified so the warranty covered it and the dealer fixed it. Mine broke with about 45,000 miles.
Thanks for the replies. I prematurely posted my thread before fully doing a search. I found a few threads that described my exact problem. I did the 55 mph drop into second test and nothing. Looks like I'll be checking the local salvage yards. And the trans. has 72k on it. Fluid was fine.
