Couple of weeks back the wife started having tranny issues (05 explorer 4.0 AWD). OD light flashing, massive shift flare on the 1-2 shift, and overdrive seems to have disappeared.
Checked the codes and got the usual "incorrect gear ratio" codes (can't remember the numbers). All this pointed to a failure of the OD servo.
So... I ordered one of those servo repair kits and was going to install it today. The first line of the instructions says to check the OD band adjustment by torquing it to 120 inlbs and backing off two turns. Here's the issue...... the OD band won't torque. I can run the adjusting screw all the way down by hand.
I assume this means the overdrive band is broken and my kit won't fix anything. I also assume at this point I should be looking for a rebuild/reman.
I'm seeking conformation one way or the other. Any opinions? Any other options?
