Well, troubleshooting my excursion smoking and decided while in there to change the injector o rings. I know the injectors have been pulled at least twice and to my knowledge no new o rings were installed.
Question is this: I was looking at the little copper dooomah flangy and noticed one side was a tad bit raised and other recessed. Does it matter as to which side goes toward the cylinder or does it really matter?
No, you can install the copper washers either way, but make sure all the old ones came out of the heads and that all the new ones stay on when installing. Allow the new o-rings to shrink after install and lube injector with motor oil before insertion as well. Also, I recommend only using OEM orings from Alliant or Motorcraft. Probably telling you what you already know though.
Are you talking about the copper washer on the nozzle? Here is a photo of what it looks like when it's on the injector. I thought the washers were asymmetrical and could be installed either side up. Maybe my kit was different than yours?
thanks btw.. they are alliant brand...that little circle groove just looking closely at it one side is raised....just wanting to make sure...hard to tell on the injectors after they are installed they seem to flatten out...
