Injector O-Rings

I had fuel in my coolant, so I went ahead and replaced all of my injector sleeves. I guess that part went OK. I'm sure I'll find out when I finish putting everythin esle together.

I am in the process of putting new O-Ring kits on my injectors and noticed that the brass gasket look as if one side has a recessed area, and the other a raised area. Does it matter how the brass gasket goes on the injector? I looked at the old ones and can't really tell because they all looked smashed on both sides. Thanks.

There probably is a right way and a wrong way, but since they are crush gaskets it shouldn't make a difference. I didn't even pay any attention to which way thay went in so there's a 50/50 chance that some are one way and some the other. 10K since installing new cups and injectors and I have had zero problems.

I got the injectors in but it seems that they will not seat all the way into the sleeve. Should the Steel back-up ring and the Cushion ring on the injector be visible, (these are the top two pieces I installed on the injector), or do the injectors need to be seated further into the sleeve? Thanks up front for any feedback.

Did the old copper washers come out? When you pulled the injectors? Add did you put plenty of oil on the o rings and injectors before you put them back in? If yes than I just take the heel of my hand and give them a good smack! If they don't seat then there's a problem and you need to check for obstructions!

They're not fully seated unil you can slip the hold down collar over the rear hold down bolt head and then are able to thread the front hold down bolt into it's mounting hole and torque it to 120 in/lbs. It's the front hold down bolt torqueing that fully seats the injector.

I use a brass drift to tap the hold down collar until I can get the collar over the rear hold down bolt and get the front hold down bolt threaded into the head. I don't beat on the solenoid to seat injectors.

Thanks Hotrodds,
I replaced the sleeves and put a new set of o-rings on the injectors, so there would not be an old copper gasket in the sleeve. I am pretty sure I bottomed out the sleeves in the bores. All of the injectors have new copper gaskets. They are all sitting at the same height with the o-rings I spoke of in the previous post are visible in all 8 injectors. Maybe I need to seat the sleeves further down into the heads.

If your using new sleeves the fit is pretty tight I would use the method robin described with the drift pin against the collar make sure you have plenty of oil on those o rings!

OK. Got it. I will try the brass drift, and then torque to specs. Thanks again.

Pull the collar forward so it clears the rear hold down bolt and give it a few taps. Then give the front of the collar a few taps. Keep alternating between front and rear until you can get the rear of the collar over the the hold down bolt head. Then pull the collar forward and tap it down until you can, by hand, thread the front hold down bolt 2 to 3 full turns. Then you should be able to torque down the bolt.

I hope that the cups are fully seated because you can't now try to seat them any deeper wthout compromising the retaining/sealing compound.

This is a fully seated cup. I have no depth measurement but the top of cup should be below the bottom of the fuel galley port.

I took your advice and it seems like everything is working. I took the truck out and it smoked a little. Seems to have stopped. It does take a little longer to start then it did before I did the sleeves. Next thing I have to do is flush out the cooling system.
Thanks for all the help.
