5.4 headers and erg help

I just put a set of obx headers on my 99 f250 5.4. I had to cut the egr tube going to the stock manifold. Can I plug it and not hook back up? There are also 2 tubes that look like vacuum lines going to the tube that goes to the manifold. I would like to get rid of the egr unless it will cause problems. I am waiting for my new y pipe to come before driving it again so I have a few days to figure out the situation. Thanks

Did you install the short-tube or long-tube OBX headers? What do you think about the quality of the headers?

Unless you reflash the pcm with the proper tune to turn off the EGR functions you cannot effectively remove the EGR system on your truck. Your best bet IMO is to replace the broken EGR pipe and anything else in the EGR system that may have got messed up. Those vaccum lines like to break.

The have a lot of bends that make it very hard to get bolts back in but i'm sure they are all the same design. I have not had a chance to finish it completely finish but the y pipe will have to be bent to line up with the header and the egr that I have on mine is on the back instead of the front. So i'm not real sure, other than that the finish and welds are nice but I have put headers on my Avalanche which were easier to install than these and put long tube headers on a LS1 camaro which I don't think theres a harder job than that. I just put shortys on my 250.

So if I unplugged the air pump or whatever else is all hooked up for egr and plugged all the open tubes it might be alright? I'm also thinking I will find a way to just hook back up. Is there any pressure in those lines or can I find some flexible tubing to hook back up to the header? As long as it is all sealed up I guess.

No, you can't do that while retaining the stock tuning.

The EGR pipe that comes from the exhaust manifold/header gets extremly hot because exhaust gasses are circulating through it. You cannot use just any old hose to make that connection. The best connection method is to replace the broken steel EGR pipe with a replacement of the same material.

I was thinking of checking out the plumbing section at a home improvement store and find some flexible tubing for water heaters and stuff. That would handle some heat and be easy to install I would think. Any thoughts on that? Otherwise I have some other old egr tubing I could try to make fit to the new location.

Google, bypass ford egr dpfe.
Theres a good site on one of the focus forums, same system as on trucks and the bypass will work. The two small tubes off the egr pipe should go to the dpfe sensor, the first tube is closest to the exhuast(high pressure side), the second tube is closest to the egr valve(low pressure side). the dpfe is what senses if the egr has flow by reading a flow difference between the two tubes, caused by a restriction built into the egr tube between the 2 sensor tubes. The egr is actuated by a vacuum valve. cut the two tubes near the exhaust side and plug the exhuast side. Block the egr with a metal plate, take the vac line off the egr valve and connect to the dpfe port that the 2nd tube was on. Leave the other dpfe port, the first tube, open. The vacuum from the actuator valve tricks the sensor into thinking there is a pressure difference, tricking the computer into thinking there is egr flow, when the egr is actually blocked.
Well, it worked on my focus, my f250 has no egr.

I am still messing with different setups for egr. I have not found a good fix for it so plan on plugging it. Is there a fuse for an air pump or something I should take out? My 2000 camaro had a mess of an egr that I took off after putting long tubes on and have no rough idle or any problems. Any other tips for removal appreciated. I am going to plug where it connects to the header and wherever the tube goes to on top of the motor. I hope I can figure out what to do with the smaller lines. I'm not sure if know exactly what or where the dpfe port is.
