Super Duty getting Ecoboost?

Ford said every vehicle line will get an Ecoboost option. When will the Super Duty trucks get one, and which engine would it be? I'd bet it would be the 5.0. With twin turbos, the 5.0 EB should make about 480HP & 600TQ or so. If they build it, I will be in line! I'll take a 550 cab/chassis with 120" WB. That should have quite a bit more power and economy over the current V10, without the cost or problems of the diesels.

A 480HP 600TQ Twin turbo gas superduty? Now that is the kind of motor that should be replacing the V10!

Sounds too good to be true. Probably is.

If it gets one it will probably be one of the last platforms to do so. Plenty of other Ford's and Lincoln's to EcoBoost first...

I hope they do it to the 6.2.

To meat future mpg and emissions requirements expect to see smaller displacement engines. From what I saw on the future 5.0l EB it will be pretty much as complex as the current PSD engines.

A turbo gas engine will have reliability issues just like a diesel. You notice that you see very few mass-produced turbo sports cars anymore? Turbo is awesome, but it drastically drops reliability that all automakers have to look at for their reputations and warranty claims. In the 80s and 90s, there was the GS-T and GS-X Eclipse, RX-7, Mitsubishi Starion/Dodge Conquest, Nissan 300ZX, Ford SVO Mustang, Dodge Omni Shelby GLH, numerous Chrysler cars (as they were teamed up with Mitsubishi then. Notice how all of the cars that were turbo at some point, were either dropped altogether (at least in the US) or given a non-turbo engine. Turbo engines run like a top for about 100K miles, and then is time to invest serious dollars into replacement and rebuilding of parts.

I believe most OTR truckers would disagree with that....

I think it will be fords last line to tackle. They must meet all new CAFE standards and that only applies to vehicles built under 8500 GVW so they will focus on those first to get their CAFE numbers up and up before getting slammed with new penalties in 2014 for not meeting them.

Since the Superduties are technically an F series I'd guess the F150 counts as the vehicle that gets the Ecoboost in that vehicle line. The answer for the next CAFE increase isn't here yet, at least nothing we in general know about. Remember they are scrambling since the geniuses in DC decided to accelerate the ratings by 5+ years.

I hope that doesn't count in Ford's mind. I like the Ecoboost F150, but it can't do the job I need it to. I hope the EB is coming to the Super Duty's too.

Yes if you were talking about a otr diesel truck. There were very few of the turbo cars built with the right stuff to hold up. The comparison your making makes me wonder why otr trucks don't have turbo gas engines. Or twin turbo gas engines..

Ford did a lot of work on these engines to make them reliable. The turbos are stainless steel, and are liquid cooled to aid longevity. I have a lot of faith in Ford's engineering lately. Ford is #1 in quality in this country.

Personally I hope not...

I just bought a 2011 (6.2) - usually I keep a truck for 10 yrs± so I'd have to trade early if we had big HP /TQ improvement..
