Has anyone ever put dyno-mat down on the floor and doors of an Ex? Did it make a difference? I am getting a lot of wind noise from the front window and exhaust sound from the magnaflow. How do i quiet the interior down. Its getting annoying on long trips? Its at about 65-70 decibels using my iphone app at 70-75.
I would think lubing up the door seals would be the first cheap trick to try. Next cheap trick would be to insert surgical tubing inside door seals to tighten them up.
Dyno-mat would be a big job. Doable, but I would try to seal up the air leaks first.
I am going to do the surgical tubing, 3/8 is the size I here to get. Were is the best place to order it? Does it make that much of a difference? Also, I think my Ex might be missing the seal on the rear passenger barn door. The vertical seal. Does your Ex have a seal on the passenger barn door that runs up and down and buts up against the driver barn door. The dealer shows one on there diagram but I dont have any holes here to attach it.
Do you think the dyno-mate would make a big enough difference to make it worth while? Has anyone done this.
I put FatMat down in my whole cab. It made a noticeable difference and quieted down the cab.
However, a year later, the truck sounds noisy again. I don't think it has become noisier over time, its just that I don't perceive the difference it made anymore.
the surgical tubing will make a substantial difference not only in interior noise but in dust intrusion.
The Excursion already had quite a sound deadening package from the factory not found in the pickups. I'm running muffler delete with the stock exhaust on this Ex and the noise doesn't bother me much, even on the long trips to northern Ontario.
I put Dynamat down and it did make a big difference. I would say my cab is quieter now than it was bone stock even after a 6" lift with 325/65-18 Nitto Terra Grapplers, 4" MBRP and cat delete. It is a lot of work but I had gutted the interior for a stereo/ video install.
My barn doors do have a rubber molding where they meet.
I like the surgical tubing idea. When gutted I could not believe the amount of dust behind all the panels.
I've heard that one can find the silicone tubing at pet stores. Specifically, ones that have fish stuff. I've seen it there, but, of course, not in the size that I wanted. There was an empty area for it.
I bought two of the extreme bulk paks from street side audio. I put a picture in my album. This was enough to cover the floor, doors and most of the rear sides. http://www.streetsideauto.com/brands/dynamat/
will 1/2 tubing go through the seal chanels? I would think that might tough. How well does it seal and work in the winter?
No, you need 1/4"ID x 3/8"OD. It's latex so low temps isnt a problem. They have different sizes. For soundproofing my truck I just used some rubberized asphalt flashing. Alot like the Dynamat but without the ridiculous price. Shop Vycor 9" x 50' Rubberized All Purpose Flashing at Lowes.com
