My dad has an '02 4dr lb 2wd v10 auto, bone stock 150ish k miles. It has developed a miss in the past and his mechanic has put one or two coil packs on it and it cleared it up for awile, it is doing it again now. would it be a better idea to just change the 6 stock ones that are left all at one time, and also anyone know a good cheap place to find some if thats what is neccesary
A quick way ti know if it really is a miss is to put the truck in drive and depress the throttle while your other foot is planted on the brake. Just put the engine under load, do not break the rear tires loose.
If you have a miss it will show up doing this.
It may be a COP, but my guess is a bad boot is causing this.
A COP is a pretty simple item. It is basically a step up transformer, basically 2 coils of wire. While the wires can sometimes break, there isn't much in them to cause occasional misses.
A dirty, wet or perforated boot can cause these symptoms.
