I guess Im working out the kinks on my 2000 I just bought. It wont start again. I drove it on a 2 hour round trip ran great, got into a parking lot and it died suddenly. It started a few more times after that for about 2 seconds then died again. No blown fuses, no check engine light, wait to start light is coming on I can hear the fuel pump coming on. Recently changed oil. Have not changed the cam sensor. Truck has 244k on it. Thanks again you guys where a big help 2 days ago when it blew a fuse on the bowl heater! haha.
I actually did get 24.1 mpg today, single cab 2wd truck manual transmission 110 highway miles used about 4 gallons of diesel. Please dont waste my time this isnt a diesel vs gas debate. Hopefully you guys are rite and its the cps im going to get ford to do it for free on monday.
Are you in a area that is cold? I'm in CA and car starts and drive without issues, but when I go to NV during the cold and snow my truck have issues starting. I just shoot a some started fluid through the air cleaner and starts right up. Not sure of the reason why it doesn't start in cold, but it works and I'm rarely in the cold weather. Hope this info helps.
Welcome to FTE. Now that we've established a Mustang gets better MPG's than a V-10, lets move on to your issue.
First off, engine oil full, air and fuel filter in good shape, and the fuel bowl heater still unplugged?
Next, how does it die? Spit and sputter, or like someone shut the key off? Did you see the white smoke while cranking, or when it was running, or when it died?
We do have a 99 - 03 7.3 diesel section located further down the main forum listing. You'd really be better off asking these types of motor specific questions down there.
My mustang has done 26mpg for a tank. Does that mean it "gets 26mpg"? No it can when soing 55 on flat highway. But normal usage i average 15-17.
Your truck does not get 24.1 any more than my mustang gets 26.
. Well I got 24 gping 60 to 65 on the highway driving conservatively I don't see why this is so important to you to try and prove me wrong but your just embrassing yourself. The truck has the bowl plugged in it shuts off fast whebit dies. It smokes white a little.
The only way diesel can die is lack of fuel or catastrophic failure.
There is a plug on fuel bowl where you can hook up the pressure gauge to check the low pressure supply. If that is good, the next would be high pressure pump.
