The 4R70W has the wide range gear sets in them , 1st & 2nd gear ratios are lower than the AOD & AODE , i have heard the 700 TQ number , but i think ford says 500 to be safe , very good trans...I don't know anything about the gears being wider , the gear sets will fit in the AOD & AODE , the 4R70W is just stronger....Lew

I think it will hold up perfectly fine once it gets an overhaul. Conanski had a 351w mated to an AOD and he said it never gave him problems. Don't see why a 4r70w wouldn't hold up being a better tranny. Is it going to be your DD?

this is currently my daily driver and will be more so now that i am going back to school in january for auto mechanics.

is rebuilding the 4r70w even one of your options? if not im sorry i keep on mentioning it lol. but yeah i suggest you keep your 4r70w and thats nice ill be taking auto tech classes next year. should be fun

The 4R70w is much better than the aod & AODE , i use it with a B&M street/ strip shift kit on my truck , it hits second gear harder than any other trans i have had & its original with a 180,000 , its been doing great now for 2 years behind a 302 with about 400 ft lbs of TQ under nitrous...

yes i will be rebuilding the 4r70w. Here is my problem though i was going to purchase a monster in a box from montertransmisson.com but they only have a kit for a 98-2003 which is really confusing me because i thought the 4r70w trannys were the same all the way through production only the bell housing changed?
