Ford HD trans

As most of you know I recently got screwed by a local transmission shop, 2 1/2 months and 3 transmissions.
Anyhow, The trans thats that was last installed is a reman unit, not built by the trans shop I initially went to. (thats probably why it works)

Curiosity got the best of me, so I decided to run the numbers off of the trans tag. The Ford tag was replaced by a "remanufactured" tag as I expected, but I was supprised to find out that I have a "F81Z7V000HBRM" which is a Ford HD trans. Great right? Well maybe...
I"ll probably never know if the "HD" parts are actually in the trans until It comes apart being that It was remand.
Maybe Mark would know, but if it was remanufatured I'm thinking just stock non-HD parts could have went in the trans instead of the HD parts...or Is it somehow different, and would require the HD parts go back in?
I'm just trying to ease my mind, and accept this trans without the fear of it breaking everytime I drive the truck...
I found this info on the HD trans thanks to Grant (tdpower)

"To address customer demand for a heavy duty transmission to meet the high load, severe duty cycle needs of commercial and recreational users, FCSD is releasing an enhanced version of our remanufactured 4R100 transmission.

Frank, There are two part numbers listed in each line. I think the 6U2Z7V000LRM is the heavy duty one.

Here are the prices from Ed's site:

http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...&siteid=214072

Edit: the link does not seem to be working but you can check it out. I'm pretty sure the 6U one is the heavy duty and the other one is a standard Ford rebuild.

I've got about 88k miles on my ford HD trans. I don't tow every day, but on average 2 to 3 times a week, and anywhere between 5-12k lbs. I only have 60T,80T, and 80E on my chip, and usually leave it in 80T since I like the shifting better. I wanted a BTS but mine crapped out at 98k miles, and I had to have my truck back up asap, and the dealership had me in and out in three days. I've been pleased thusfar, and I just recently swapped in a JWVB, and actually can't tell any difference. Not sure if they do anything in the factory VB or not, but I'm having a hard time telling any noticeable difference. Either way, I can't really complain.

I noticed a difference when I installed my JWVB. I'm second guessing that I have a HD unit.

Tom, my tag was on the left side towards the rear of the trans. Im not sure what the Ford tag looks like, but I think thats a different trans tag that you posted. Do you have a pic of that one?

EDIT: nevermind, I looked at it again, and that is the correct tag.

Sorry to confuse you. At least you got a ford re manufactured unit. I would call ford to confirm the two different numbers. Maybe Kevin can post the number on his.

Sorry for the crummy pics, took them with my HTC Hero phone. According to the description above, it is the HD version listed for 2002 trucks. I don't know if they would have different part numbers for different year trucks or not. Here's my labels

Thank you kevin, your phone did fine. I used my samsung droid for my tag pic.
According to the list in my first post, We both have a HD unit.
You tag confirms that. and you tag is from Ford right?
I was thinking that the tag on mine was from whatever company did the last rebuild??

Yeah I got mine from local dealership. I really contemplated having BTS build and ship me one to the dealer to install. However with the shipping, and then the install labor at dealer, plus the dealer had one there the next day, I really had to go this route. I was leaving for vacation in a few days, and the additional expense on the tranny, plus renting a ride for a week worked against me.

Thanks again Kevin. I am also looking into a BTS.
I'm thinking of taking legal action on the shop that attempted to rebuild my last trans. After two unsuccessful attempts to rebuild mine, he told me that he bought a crate reman from a company out of Orlando. Well, it looks like he put in a spraypainted junkyard trans.
Thats what got me started on tracing the tag numbers. Now I'm hoping he did get a JY trans, and that reman shop didn't gut a HD unit and put in the stock weak parts.
Maybe I can get something out of the first shop, and get this trans rebuilt if infact all of the Ford HD parts are still intact.
Here a pic of the trans that raised an eyebrow about it just coming out of a reman shop. It looks like dirt in the casting holes....I would think that the case would have been hot tanked and super clean, not still dirty.

Frank if you don't have the Enhanced Torque Converter, what do you have? Wouldn't that be part of the trans when bought from Ford?
