I have an 05 250 about 240k miles . Truck sputters at 1500 rpm. Had diagnostics done no codes, had batteries tested both checked ok. Had injector balance test done no 2&3 injectors were lower than the rest. My question do i replace them or check the ficm, or try HSS additive or switch to another brand or HELP!
with 240k I would do a powerbalance test, a crank case pressure test and a compression test befor I thought about new injectors. with out all that info its hard to advise. being that you had no codes, and compression test is good providing the ficm has 45+volts then new injectors.
How do i do a power balance test? FICM was tested when running,The sob i dont think did it with the key on and then cranking how crucial is this way of testing.
The only way I know of to do a power balance test is with the IDS (ford scan tool)
very important to look at ficm voltage when cranking, at idle and about 2k rpm.
Thanks for your input. The scan tool the shop used looked hi-tech he showed me the graph on his laptop of the injectors while the truck was running, is the power balance test different than what he showed me? Dam where were you earlier today to ask the right questions.I have learned a lot i just don't want to get screwed. While i was there a guy came in with injector probs and the mech said that truck has been in there before for the same thing im not so sure its the injectors maybe something not fixed thats making the injectors go bad.
Ya this guy said the ford 6.0 sucks. I replied ya the money out of my wallet and straight into your wallet, the SOB just smiled. Could low fuel pressure be causing my injector demise or am i too late. Also i noticed this happening after my last 2 oil changes.
When you say low highside pressure could this mean HPOP going bad , and how do i test that bad boy. What about the check valves everyone refers to. I am trying to perform as much as i can my self because i hear a vacuum noise coming from my wallet. Thanks again for your help. I am in San Antonio a fellow Texan.
You can get most of the info w/ an autoenginuity, but (IMO) you also need a fuel pressure gauge (both a sending unit and gauge).
Low highside pressure is more commonly a leak in the high pressure oil "piping/rails". You can try some of the crude tests posted here ........ add air through the ICP sensor (lots of places sell adapters for this) and listen for leaks w/ a homemade stethescope (piece of a hose).
Thanks for all the help. Discovered that walmart overfilled oil by about a quart. drained ran bunches better.Truck still has what i call a miss, moved injector harness at the back driver side injector noticed truck smoothed out. Cold this be my problem ,and do i have to replace the harness?Could i get this replaced under recall?
Cheezit, I've been having a hard time trying to figure out / pin piont, the problem with my F250 PS, beside the operator. lol Please take a look at my thread from yesterday. ( code 299, no start, dead peddel, thunder at shut off) etc. Thanks, Gary
