I put a another engine in my 95 4.9 inline 6. I finished the project and got it running and me and my dad took it for a test drive, so I reconfigured the firing order on the distributor cap in the correct firing order. After that the truck hasn't fully turned over again and even at fully charged it cranks at 8v. I've taken the spark plug out of the first cylinder and held my finger over it while my dad cranked it to find top dead center and I have that correct. I've had the battery tested, it's only 3 months old, it's in perfect condition. The starter was bought over a year ago and never had problems starting after I put the new engine, it cranked on the first try after I finished switching engines didn't have to do any tweaking. So I don't believe it's the starter, I'm thinking there's something drawing the battery down when u crank it, but I'm not an expert on vehicles, this was my first vehicle to ever work on mechanically. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated and helpful.
It is s'posed to drop while cranking, but I don't believe it is s'posed to go that low. What is your voltage fully charged with everything turned off? What is you voltage with the engine running.
Use a Digital Multimeter. Don't have one? Go buy a cheap one. Every toolbox should have one.
What was the reason for "reconfiguring" the firing order? What year engine did you swap in?
Sorry, I didn't fully explain on that one. I don't know really if I even changed the firing order at all because I did'nt mark down where they were before I pulled them off, but I reconfigured it because there was a constant miss fire when I test drove it. And I bought an engine that was out of a ford full size work van. I believe the engine was a 96, but I could definetally be wrong. It had the O2 sensers on the exhuast manifold where as mine had them at the front of the tail pipes a little before where they clamp on exhaust manifolds. Also the upper intake manifold where it has the piece that bolts on to the air intake piece was differnt I believe, but it's been awhile since I did this, please correct me if the name of the pieces are wrong because like I said this is the first vehicle or mechanical work I've done before, also to the first reply post I put new battery cable terminals or connecters on also. So I don't think it's a bad connection, though it could be I will check it out again.

( also , the distributor rotor turns CLOCKWISE , the distributor cap is installed with the marked # 1 position facing AWAY from the engine , and the engine cylinders / spark plugs are numbered 1 through 6 , from front to rear ) Might want to re-check for the heck of it.
