Hey guys. I'm new to the forum. About 8 months ago I bought a 1979 F250. It has about 30" of lift on it, and its sitting on 52" tires. The guy who had it before me must have changed out the rear axle because its not the one that comes up on any data base. Any ideas how I can find out what type axle it is?

It looks like a GM Corporate 14 bolt based on the rear diff cover.

Check out this link for details the bolt count, orientation of the ring gear bump in the cover and bolt pattern all match.

Damn, think those lift blocks are scarry enough? (just a little small in cross section of tubing used for my taste...) Hope it has ladder bars or at least good springs, i hate to think of the axle wrap on accelleration...

Err... anyway, enough unsolicited critique of the previous owners lift work

Looks like a 14 bolt to me too, looks a lot like the one we put under a buddies 68 chevy.

8 lug?

I'd be interested in seeing the whole truck, not often you see one on 52s... even the guys doing serrious off road and full race mud trucks here only run 44s

That and the pinion support. Only other axle I know of with that is a Ford 9". I agree with the 14 bolt observation.

I hope you make that thing safe to drive. Don't tell me the front axle has blocks too...
