Ok, been checking threads about the inner seal. When I removed the passenger side axle a plastic sleeve came out with it. The differential was not leaking. Will I have to replace the inner seal? If so what is the part number for this seal. Cant seem to find it on any part sights. Removed the axle before and this sleeve did not come out with the axle. Needle bearings were shot and tore up axle stub. This is why I removed the axle. Any thoughts? Truck is a 2001 F-250 7.3.
The dust shields are a possibility. Is it a flat plastic disc, narrow and about 3 inches in diameter? Could you take a picture and post it? If it is part of the dust shield, they have updated the design.
If it is part of the inner seal it would be part of this (just a quick google search, nothing more): https://www.4wdfactory.com/store/pro...e-Seal%2C-Ford

Its not a disc. It is about 3" long with a lip on one end. The axle shaft was hard to pull out and this pice sliding inside the axle tube was the problem. Can post pic tomorrow.
Nothing is wrong....that is not a seal. It just holds the axle in the center of the tube when reinstalling. With the new style outer dust shield, you have to remove the disc and toss it since the seal is installed in the tube rather that floating on the axle.

Ok on the plastic sleeve. There is a part of the seal stuck on the shaft. Can't figure out how to upload the pic but will post it as soon as I can.

I figure this ^^^ is correct. The picture in the link was for the OP to compare what came out to.
For the record, I've never seen an inner seal piece come out with the shaft, and I don't think it's possible for it to come out the tube side in one piece.
OP, sounds like you are on the right track to get this figured out.

Thanks for all your help. One piece did come out with the shaft. Had to knock it off. At least now I know where I am with it.
