i have an 84 f150 that i'm putting a 351w in the block is a late 70's with gt40 heads. i'm wanting to put the serpentine belt set up on it. what year should i get it off & what all should i take?? also what year aod tranny would be best for this truck because i might have to put it on the road a few times a year. the gears are 3.55, 3.73 or 4.10's
yeah i was going to the junk yard to look for a 86 & newer truck with a 5.8 in it to get the set up off it. also i ran up on an 89 mustang 5.0 that i can get for around $500 the whole entire car... another project MAYBE!!!
will a serpentine set up fit that old block??? if so i'm gonig to the local pull a part sunday and get one and what all should i take off the truck???????
I think to make the conversion easier for you, you should get everything; all the accessories such as the PS pump, AC compressor, Thermactor air pump, alternator, idler pulley (if it has one) and tensioner pulley and all their brackets. Getting them together will ensure that they will be positioned correctly, and allow the proper belt alignment and tensioning. You can certainly try to transfer the pulleys from those accessories to yours, but that can be a lot of work if you don't have the right tools.
I am thinking that you should also get the front engine cover and water pump, since the cover has the correct orientation for the water passages to match up with the reverse rotating pump.
I am using a 74 5.8 engine block and timing cover. I directly bolted up all of the brackets from an 89 F-150 5.8 engine. I am using my stock timing cover with the mechanical fuel pump and running the reverse rotation water pump on it.
5.0 brackets are very close to working but not quite due the 5.8 engine being taller and slightly wider.
yeah i went to that site last night thaks you for that. after looking at all the pieces i think that i'll just sick to the v-belts just to save money for the rear gears and transmission stuff... but i might do it later on down the road.
