so i just had my heads rebuilt and i put them back on my truck (400) and now i have two rockers that when tightend do not hold the pushrod tight. i can wiggle the rods around and i can hear them clicking when at idle and if i get on it it sounds like there going to blow out of the valve cover. any ideas of what this may be? i am running some atf through it now in the hopes that it was a stuck valve/lifter but it so far has done nothing. any help would be greatly appreciated thanks
when rolling the engine over in a non running application is the rocker arm moving the same as the others as far as lift. make sure your pushrods are the same length also. when the rockers are off are the valvestems all at the same height. IF the stems aren't all at the same height gonna be rattling around. need to verify this info. make sure your rocker isn't damaged also. good luck and drop a message on what you find?? Possible bad cam/lifter??
i ran it with the valve cover off and could see that 2 of the rocker arms are barly moving and not oiling as well as the rest and the valve stem is sitting lower on them then the others why would that be. this is my first time ever replacing heads so its all new to me. i just bought a couple of new lifters and was going to put them in this weekend see what happens. if its the cam what is a good cam to put in that is a little roudy but not enough to make me change other things

If rocker arm isn't moving much compared to the other rockers your camshaft is flat.the oil supposed to run through the lifter up the pushrod then to the rocker arm. If anything in this sequence is disturbed no oil! One of the reasons for possible cam failure is weak spring and allowing the lifter to jump instead of staying on cam. need to get checked at machine shop or just replace springs and would probably change to all new springs. on the stems being shorter was this with the rocker arms off and checked/compared to the others???? 268 high energy for pickup/4wd good little cam had some good luck with this cam. I know their are some other good cams out their but have ran this cam in several different applications and did well. Be sure to add Zinc to your oil for break in. catch you later and good luck. on the new heads did you install new springs and valve job? If running old springs on new valve job. Possible spring issue. spring pressure is a critical on camshaft to much or not enough your in trouble.
Every cam certain pressures on installed and open pressures. talk to you later and good luck.
