Classic F-100 Stays True to Its Roots: Two Tone Tuesday Presented by Dupli-Color Premium Truck Bed Coating
Keep your pumpkin spice, a reader shows us his Ford F-100 Ranger rocking the best of fall all year round.
One of our favorite things about Two Tone Tuesday is seeing the gorgeous trucks from our readers. One truly epic two tone truck came to our attention by Ford Truck Enthusiasts reader Dave St. Cyr. One look at his 1974 Ford F-100 Ranger, and we were smitten.
You’d be pressed to find a finer example of a sixth-generation F-100 in the Ranger trim, which Ford manufactured from 1973 to 1979. This generation was most noted for the popularity of dentsides; but it also featured some changes including wider wheelbase, refreshed styling, more steel, a larger cabin, addition of storage solutions, and front disc brakes.
In Wimbledon White and Bold Orange, this truck is impossible to ignore. And she doesn’t sit in a garage, this beauty gets around, and still boasts solid performance.
St. Cyr notes that but for a few updates, the ’74 F-100 is all original. “Farmer’s pride and morning breakfast run truck found in ND,” he says. “I’m the third owner, the second had it about a year for a few parades. Has its characteristic dings and a few scratches, but it still runs nice.”
The few upgrades include a tonneau cover and caps. St. Cyr has done an excellent job of keeping his truck as it was when it rolled off the line.
“Original paint has only been buffed,” says St. Cyr. “It will stay original as long as I own it.”
Running with a 360 automatic under the hood, the F-100 boasts an usual and very cool detail.
“It even has hand scribbled Ford assembly line inspector marks ‘357’ under the hood.” explains St. Cyr. “An employee of the St Paul, MN Ford plant, where this Ranger originated from, pointed it out to me and said they are usually cleaned off and that he rarely, if ever anymore, sees them. I am researching through Ford to see if I can find out info on the person, Inspector # 357.” Keep us posted!
We especially love this grille, redesigned for the sixth generation with a beefier and more square front end.
Recently, St. Cyr and his wife came across the truck’s soulmate at an antique, a matching two tone white and orange vintage washing machine converted into a cooler.
