SPY SHOTS We Caught the 2017 Ford GT Testing Out in the Open
It’s ironic that the matte gray car you see here is closer to the production version of the upcoming 2017 Ford GT than the shiny blue stunner that the Blue Oval had on display back in January at the Detroit Auto Show. That’s OK, though. It just means we’re getting closer to the end of 2016, when the next-generation GT will go on sale.
The development mule you see here is pretty much the same as the show car, although the cannon-like exhaust finishers and air-venting tail lights are not present. I’m sure that’s just because they’re not necessary for testing at this stage.
Inside, the seating position will be fixed, but the pedals and steering column will be adjustable to fit drivers of different sizes. Paddles mounted behind the steering wheel, which will likely feature a Ferrari-esque amount of buttons and switches, will control the dual-clutch gearbox. The driver of this $400,000 American exotic will sit right in front of a prominent configurable dash display, as drivers of the Lamborghini Aventador and McLaren’s various models do. GT owners will take on such European offerings with at least 700 horsepower from a heavily modified 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6.
