2013 Ford F-350 Super Duty

Got an in on a good deal? We’ve got the pros and cons of the 2013 Ford Super Duty.

Buying a used car or truck is always exciting. And always stressful. Even when you have done your research and set your budget; you are going to have questions. Which is exactly why Ford truck communities and forums are a popular place to ask for advice. Ford owners offer valuable insight and feedback that can save you money and migraines.

It is in that spirit we launch our new feature “Should I Buy It?” We will take a look at a prospective Ford purchase, break down the pros and cons, and hear from the real experts: the drivers.

We’re coming out of the gate hot on this one. The 2013 Ford F-350 Super Duty.

2013 Ford F-series Super Duty

The 2013 Ford F-350 Super Duty was the penultimate year for the twelfth-generation F-Series (2009-2014). While the F-Series was well established, the “Super Duty” Fords were still relatively new. In 1998, Ford wisely divided their truck lineup. Heavy-duty ¾-ton (and larger) trucks were now Super Duty trucks. These herculean trucks needed to be built separately and on a different platform than the F-150.

Today, Super Duty is synonymous with its muscular, beefed up frame, suspension, and commercial-grade chops. How does the 2013 Ford F-350 hold up over time? Well, recently we shared the story of a 2013 Ford F-350 that has racked up 1.3 million miles. So, it is fair to say it has got staying power.

Forum member SeniorSneu is interested in a ’13 Ford F-350 Super Duty with 6.7-liter PowerStroke. But is it a good deal?

“I found an interesting 2013 F-350 near me. 59K miles, 6.7L PowerStroke, Crew Cab, Lariat. However, given all my previous research was about 2021s, I really have no idea what I should watch out for. Do the 2013 SD trucks have any issues? Any particular years/features I need to watch out for? Dealer wants 39k for it. It looks very clean, no damage, single owner no accidents (no delete or tune).”

On the plus side, the 2013 F-350 sounds good, pretty low mileage, and is just a monster of power. Towing capacity is 22,800 pounds. And the 6.7-liter PowerStroke diesel engine is genuinely outstanding, producing 400 hp and 800 lb-feet of torque.

With best in class power and torque, the 2013 F-350 ruled the segment, and did so with excellent ratings.

And the Lariat trim has a host of luxe upgrades inside and out including foglights, power telescoping mirrors, rear parking sensors, 18-inch alloy wheels, a power-sliding rear window, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery and seating, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, power-adjustable pedals, eight-way power-adjustable front seats, a rearview camera, MyFord Touch and an eight-speaker audio system.

As for the cons, the 2013 6.7 PowerStroke was still in its first generation (2011-2015). It got off to a solid start, but as with any inaugural generation, some drivers might feel a few kinks that would get considerably better over time. Some prefer the upgraded fuel system of the post 2015 6.7 PS with its high-pressure fuel pump. Mainly, while the 2013 6.7 has excellent specs, a PowerStroke from the second-generation (2015-2019) does has more experience, power and torque.

But drivers and owners rave about their F-350 Super Dutys.

“My 2013 was a great truck, no issues and would buy it again,” writes Senix. “Just look it over carefully, make sure all emissions are intact.”

“This truck has all the upgrades you could possibly want,” Lauren says. “Purrs like a kitten and is just what I wanted. I’m so excited to own this amazing truck.”

2013 Ford F-350

Overall, the 2013 F-350 has solid reviews and raves across the board. And in this case the dealer is providing paperwork with a clean Carfax, and full maintenance records. Price-wise, it is a little on the high-end. But that is expected for clean, low-mileage trucks with a huge demand. Our forum still feels it might be worth a haggle.

Verdict

Yes to the beastly 2013 F-350 Super Duty. This is a truck with a proven track record, excellent safety ratings, and has shown it can handle just about anything. Aftermarket parts are easy to come by, and it offers a lot of comfort and high-end touches.
