QUESTION OF THE WEEK Which Explorer? Body on Frame or Unibody?

Since 2011, the Ford Explorer has been based on a similar unibody construction to the chassis of the Ford Taurus sedan and after the Explorer was a body on frame vehicle from its introduction back in 1990 through 2010, some long-time Explorer owners were unhappy with the shift to the unibody design.

Fortunately for Ford, the move to a unibody design has paid off on the sale sheet, as the new Explorer has proven to be one of the industry’s more popular SUVs.

At the same time, I still hear Ford fans occasionally gripe about the move to a car-based platform for the new Explorer and that brings me to our Question of the Week.

Do you prefer the older body on frame Ford Explorers that were sold from 1990 through 2010 or do you prefer the new unibody Explorer that was introduced for the 2011 model year?
