Ford Trolls Truck Fans With Camouflaged Ranger
Midsize Pickup Looks Just Like One Already in Production. So, What’s the Big Deal?
Several sources published what is definitely a Ford Ranger midsize pickup truck roaming the streets near Ford HQ in Dearborn, Michigan. As it’s to be expected, many quickly shouted in excitement at the sight of what some hinted to be the “2019 Ranger.” Us? Not so much.
Why? Despite being fully camouflaged, the photographs published look to feature the global Ford Ranger that’s already in production and for sale in many countries. Granted, there could be several design elements hidden under the camo, but none that immediately jumped out at us. Besides a slightly redesigned grille, the photographed camouflaged truck looks just like the orange unit featured here.
This is where we insert a “but,” and a big one. Just because the body looks familiar, it doesn’t mean the rest of the truck is. For all we know, Ford could be testing an American spec drivetrain, interior, driving aids, etc. So, there’s still a chance that there is some 2019 Ranger in it, but at least none that we can see.
Also, don’t forget about the Bronco. Ford has previously tested entire chassis and drivetrains for specific models by strapping them on similar vehicles. In fact, we once heard about a Ford Mustang GT having done serious road testing with Ford GT components. Could there be some Bronco under that Ranger?
As we previously said, it will most likely be another year until U.S. Rangers start popping up here and there. Then again, what do we know?!
