Ford Going Maverick? Compact Pickup to be Added to Lineup

Ford will reportedly be adding a new, smaller pickup named ‘Maverick’ to the F-series as soon as next year.

Big news out of Detroit this week, as it looks that Ford will be adding a new truck to the F-Series family. It has been long-rumored that the Blue Oval was planning to not just bring back the Bronco, but a smaller pickup in a size below the Ranger. Well, this Courier-type truck might be wearing the name “Maverick,” and be headed to showrooms sooner than we initially thought.

According to TFLTruck, a inside source reached out to them with the details. The truck would be for 2022, and would be released sometime next year. “The dimensions of this tailgate match a truck like the current midsize Ford Ranger,” they write. With the source even saying the truck would be a “baby version of the Ford Raptor.”

Yeah, it sounds awesome. And a pretty far cry from the Mazda B-Series-based Ford Courier pickups that rolled off the line from 1972 to 2007.

We have included a video from the TFLTruck, and you can check out an allegedly leaked rendering. Which we, for lets say legal reasons, are deciding not to include. The image shows a tailgate with “Maverick” badging, similar to the Ford blue oval logo.

Okay, so first off: Maverick is a great name. We definitely love it. And we can’t help but notice that it dovetails nicely with the Bronco. This would also seem to imply that the new Ford Maverick pickup would likely share the same platform as the upcoming Bronco or Baby Bronco.

This is all good news. From what we have seen, the soon-to-be-revealed Bronco is looking tough and very cool. If the Maverick is in the family, that can only mean they are keeping it consistent. A small but badass rugged truck would be a solid fit for Ford. And for the market. With a smaller size, it would have a smaller price tag.

Bronco

If the name Maverick is ringing any bells, it is because Ford did have a compact car in the 1970s by the same name. Now, that could be coincidence.  Okay, frankly we do think it is a coincidence. Or, maybe we’re really off-base and Ford is planning to bring us a Ranchero-inspired rig from the Maverick 2-door sedan?

Yeah, not likely. But we wouldn’t be mad at an updated Ranchero.

Lest we appear we are spreading idle chatter, we should note that the TFLTruck’s item has been heavily cited by a number of news outlets. Plus, they do have a solid track record.

It will be interesting to see what develops, stay tuned!
