2019 Ford F-150

F-150 with the 2.7-liter EcoBoost is praised by owners, leading the OP to buy the truck.

The Ford F-150 with either the 2.7-liter or 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 has proven to be incredibly popular with owners around the country, but some buyers are leery of going with the smaller of the two twin turbocharged engines. Historically, smaller engines have struggled in larger trucks, leading some buyers to question the usefulness of the 2.7-liter EcoBoost in the half-ton Ford trucks.

One of those people was “Mattri”, who was considering a 2019 Ford F-150 XLT with the 2.7-liter EcoBoost. He posted in the 2015+ F150 section looking for owner input and he got that input. In fact, he got such great input that he bought the truck, shown above.

F-150 Concerns Introduced

When the OP first shared his question with the forum, he provided the basis details of his situation, looking for any or all input that owners with experience with this engine could provide.

Considering a 2019 4×4 crewcab with the 2.7.

The added complexities of a turbo make me a little leery, as do the various reports of oil dilution, oil pan leaks, towing probs etc etc but you also hear plenty of reports of trucks with hundreds of thousands of trouble free miles.

Have most of the major issues been resolved?

What are some things to watch out for?

Maintenance tips?

Any and all ideas welcome.

He didn’t include an image at first, but later in the discussion, he shared the picture above of the F-150 that he eventually purchased.

Community Thumbs-Up

The first person to respond was “BeefFord”, who has had some issues that were addressed under warranty.

I have an 18. Did have a bad turbo replaced under warranty and a front bearing replaced under warranty. 56k now and love it. I drive well over 100 miles a day. Tows awesome compared to my 09 5.4. Very happy so far.

We are guessing that a story about a bad turbo was not what the OP was looking to hear, but “Gabar” provided more positive information.

Solid engine so no worries. The 10 speed has been a little finicky for some owners but for the most part, very solid as well.

As with any automobile engine, maintenance is the key to a long life and in my opinion, even more important on turbo charged vehicles.

I would definitely use a high quality full synthetic motor oil instead of the synthetic blend or the regular oil as well well as a high quality filter.

Some but not all owners have had oil pan leaking issues and I’ve never heard anything about oil dilution problems on the 2.7 or the 3.5 so maybe other members can chime in on that.

How much weight are you intending to possibly tow?

To which the OP provided the following information.

Won’t really be towing much at all, it’s just the “standard” engine in the F150s anymore. I know they make the 5.0 and the 3.3 N/A but the 2.7 is by far the most popular. I love how the truck drives just don’t want to be shot in the foot down the road.

However, “Jonesy0027” posted about his own experiences with the 2.7, having previous owned a 3.5-liter EcoBoost truck.

Howdy Mattri,
Bought a new 2013 Screw 3.5 Eco with no problems. Traded in my 2013 on a 2019 Screw 2.7 Eco. No engine problems. 10 speed transmission shifts oddly. Sometimes a delay in shifting gears.

I occasionally tow a small utility trailer or Jon boat. The power is fine.

I would definitely buy another Ford Ecoboost.

He Bought the Truck

The thread continues on with more of the same, positive input on the 2.7-liter V6 and a little more than a week after making his initial post, the OP shared the news that he had pulled the trigger and come home with the 2019 F-150.

Well between the markdowns and what they gave for my 17 the 2019 ended up following me home today.

It’s quite a bit nicer than the 17 and a lot more high tech, still getting used to that.

All in all really like the truck.

The image at the top of this piece is the only look that the OP has provided of the 2019 F-150, but this thread does a great job of displaying the unique information here on Ford-Trucks.com.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
