Hows that for a milestone?

Last week, the 500,000th 6.7 liter Powerstroke rolled off the assembly line in Louisville, Kentucky. Ford has only been putting together this current generation diesel since 2011. Three years. Half a million engines. No wonder they’re patting themselves on the back.

Unlike their competitors, Ford builds both their engines and transmissions in house. Ram relies of Cummins for their engines, while GM uses Allison for their transmissions. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. It’s just worth noting that a Ford Super Duty is Ford through an through. Brand loyalists like stuff like that.

That diesel will be getting an upgrade soon. As we reported earlier, Ford has a number of changes ready for the Super Duty diesel line-up. A bigger turbo, new engine packaging, and a host of other drive train improvements will be waiting for 2015 buyers. Most importantly though, it’ll make even more power. The current 400 horsepower and 800 ft/lbs of torque isn’t bad, but as always, more is better.
