Tear up the Trails With This 1970 Ford F-250 Crew Cab!

Crew cab trucks are a dime a dozen these days, but it wasn’t always that way. In the old days, trucks weren’t family haulers – they were load haulers and trail blazers.

Families used their big ‘ole American cars to take the family to church every Sunday, while their trucks were relegated to working duties. Crew cab trucks did exist back then, but they weren’t exactly a popular configuration, which means there aren’t a ton of them floating the around pre-owned market these days, and probably none look like this 1970 F-250. Rather than leaving this relatively rare truck stock or restoring it, there isn’t much underneath that resembles the setup this beast left the factory with.

Originally a two-wheel drive truck, this F-250 can now crawl rocky trails with traction to all four wheels. It’s been lifted a whopping 8 inches, and has a host of beefy aftermarket suspension parts underneath that make it a formidable off-road vehicle. The original 390 motor was ditched in favor of a 460 with stock internals, headers, and a Flowmaster exhaust for a little rumble.

It’s clear that cosmetics took a back seat to functionality in this one, as the body still sports its original paint and a bit of rust. The interior is mostly original and solid, but it ain’t pretty, though that hardly matters when you consider what the truck was built to do.

While we see new crew cab trucks all over our roads today (and rarely a regular cab), this classic Ford is a reminder that having more passenger space in a truck is a new phenomenon. A bit of a trail blazer for its time, this ’70 is now blazing different trails altogether.
