Ford Plant Workers get Less Vacation This Year, and It’s Your Fault
If you have any friends or family members that work at Ford’s SUV plants across the country, you should expect them to be a little cranky and less well-rested.
Ford Motor Company has recently announced that it’s shortening its traditional two-week summer shutdown at SUV plants in Louisville, Kentucky, Chicago, Illinois, and Oakville, Ontario in Canada. Instead, these factories will resume operations for only one week, therefore cutting the summer shutdown in half.
This is the fourth consecutive year Ford has chosen to shorten the summer shutdown given the all-time high demand for the award-winning lineup of SUVs. The Louisville Assembly Plant, Chicago Assembly Plant and Oakville Assembly Plant and their supporting stamping facilities will only shut down the week of 4th of July, therefore giving its employees the opportunity to enjoy the holiday during their vacation.
In addition to the SUV plants, the Kentucky Truck plant will have a shortened summer shutdown as workers there prepare for the upcoming launch of the all-new Super Duty truck later this year, which we really look forward to.
While it’s a pity that loyal workers will get a shortened vacation this year, it’s also a very positive sign for the economy and Ford to have to work more than planned due to customer demand.
