2022 f350 6.2 10 speed 3.73 gears, its so thirsty!!
Hello all, This is my first post on the forum. Im sure its been discussed but would like to ask if anyone has managed to improve the fuel mileage on these trucks. I bought the truck with 40,000KM, and it seems like a decent truck except the fuel usage seems crazy, it gets about 23liters per 100km empty, and goes up to 25liters per100 when pulling my small travel trailer. Why are they so terrible on fuel??
Hoping someone on here has tried something that improves the mileage?

Google tells me that "23 liters per 100km" is 10mpg US. For the 6.2 unloaded not towing you should get around 14mpg average, which Google says is equal to 16.82 liters per 100 km. Overall fuel average depends on type of driving and how heavy your boots are. Your fuel economy average sounds low. The best way to improve fuel economy is drive slow. Small tires at max air pressure help fuel economy at the expense of ride quality. Maybe your truck needs a tune up. Plugs, wires, MAF, air filter, purge valve etc. You get better mileage with higher octane fuel too, but you pay more so not saving much.
It totally depends on the type of driving you do and how heavy your foot is.
My 2022 (7.3L, 4.30) has a lifetime fuel economy of 11 mpg. I don’t have a heavy foot but most of my driving is around town and these are heavy trucks and it takes a lot of energy to get them moving and slow them down.

You joined in nov 2025, yet you waited till June 2026 to post.....
Most people on this forum, I "suspect", no, make that I "know"... would say stuff like...
Slow it down, take it easy on the skinny pedal...
What did you expect, it's a 1 Ton...
You bought the wrong truck if you wanted/expected good gas mileage...
It's just the way it is...
or some smartzass thing like, "the secret to lower fuel usage don't start the engine"...
and... that is why the gasmilage is as "bad" as it is, in these trucks, the F-350 consumer excepts it,.. puts up with it being this way,... Because it's an F-350, so FORD, keeps on providing/making it this way because it's cheaper...
It is NOT that hard to improve the MPG as I have done it , because I care enough So FORD Co. could do it too if they thought they "had" to...
To get the highest mpg run the recommended tire pressure on truck and trailer and drive at lowest possible speed.
My problem is at the recommended tire pressures the ride is harsh and if I don’t run the 70 mph speed limit on two lane highways it pisses everyone off and it creates a traffic hazard.

THAT, is exactly correct... Year 4, of my set up I went on a vacation where 73 MPH was the speed limit, instead of the 62 MPH speed limit, and it actually brought down my yearly average MPG by 6.2%... One trip, and the whole years "loaded" average collapsed because of that speed difference.... Well that sucked... and it shows how much speed actually does effect the MPG numbers...

Reason: add info
You just gotta be happy that the 6.2 has enough power to move the heavy truck at whatever speed you want. Imagine back in the day where 9 or 10 mpg was the norm and the trucks didn't have enough power to maintain speed on hills, empty.

Best truck I ever had... Except for the ****ty MPG from the factory... Guess what, now I have the best truck I ever had with great MPG too...
Guy I just finished a job for has a 22 F350 dually and gets 11.5. He has the 6.2 with the 10 speed. I have a 22 F250 with the 7.3 and the 10 speed and I get 13.5 in town. Just finished a round trip to Texas and back to Illinois and I averaged 17 on the highway. That was average speed of 75 mph.
