Build you own webpage

I couldn't find a better place to post this information.

Attention!
Looking over and over the build you own webpage, I noticed a interesting difference in options for the XLT. If you order the max tow package for the retail of $1295, it includes an upgraded rear bumper. Excluding upgraded bumper, I ordered the same items separately. 3:55 = $50, trailer tow package = $895, 36 gal fuel tank =$445, trailer brake controller $295. This total is $1695 or $400 more by ordering items separately and no upgraded bumper. This is taking your money and getting less.

The upgraded bumper is the hitch...it's rated for the higher towing capacity of the Max Tow package. The standard hitch is rated for less weight...this is what you're paying for.

Your interpretation of Ford language is helpful. I was trying to point out that you actually pay more for less. If you order individual tow options you pay more than choosing the Max tow package. Plus you to don't get the 'upgraded bumper'. On an another Ford forum a member pointed out dealerships order their in stock trucks this way to increase sticker price for more profit. The viewed list on the sticker sheet of tow options is much more convincing and substantial the a one item Max Tow Package. The Ford customer loses with higher cost and less performance.

I dunno...there are LOTS of us who have bought trucks specifically for the max tow package. Adding options "a la carte" has always been more expensive than ordering packages, this is nothing new.

Did you figure the difference in invoice price? Invoice on Max Tow is $1,192, and MSRP is $1,295...meaning just over $100 profit, all else being equal.

Trailer Tow package invoice is $824($71 profit), the ER fuel tank $409($36 profit), brake controller $253($22 profit), and the E-locker $433($37 profit).

Assuming discount, incentives, and the rest of the deal is the same, the dealer would only make $166 more optioning it like that. And they'd lose a LOT of sales from folks like myself who would only buy a "Max Tow" truck. Doesn't make much sense to me.

I didn't look at the Max Tow Package when I built my new F150. My reasoning: I understood if you want to tow more than 10000 lbs, one should buy an F-250 or above.
The new max tow rating for the F-150 is 12200 lbs. I did want 3:55 ELD for off highway use. I would have saved money by adding the Max Tow Package. I discovered this after my order was placed. My dealership is attempting to make the change. Keepin my fingers crossed.

Why's that? Myself and a few others have had over 10K lbs behind F150s without issue.

My interpretation here is that it's cheaper to buy the package than to itemize the items that you want. Am I correct?

I'm not sure what the problem is then. If you want to pull heavy and you want to do it in an F-150, then the Max Tow option is a no brainer.

If you're not comfortable in an F-150, Ford offers the equipment that will do the job.

I'm going to side with Tim here. Part of the reason for "packages" is that it groups together items that are complimentary. I like "ala carte" as much as anything, but there are often good reasons for some of the packages.

I think many of the packages have derived from a functional standpoint where certain things work well together and I believe that many packages have derived from popular choices over the years.

Not only no, but hell no. We try to make our trucks the best value we can in order to be more competitive. Why in the world would I want my trucks to be $400 higher than everyone elses for a $50 difference in invoice cost? That's horrible business practice and doesn't make a lick of sense without putting on a tin foil hat.

Also, when we order trucks from Ford, Ford actually encourages the use of packages, so Ford isn't trying to win one over on you either, that's why they offer the package to start with!
