HMM what to buy, 6.0, 6.4, or the new 6.7?

Wondering what you fellas think would be the better engine, the 6.0 psd, the 6.4 psd, or the new 6.7 psd. Looking to haul a mid sized trailer, like to put an intake, exhaust and tune it, any suggestions or comments are appreciated thank you

The 6.0 seems to be ok if you find the right one. My take on the 6.0 is do nothing to it and it should run ok.

I have the 6.4. It is a good motor, accepts tuners easily and won't blow the heads. It is a good hwy motor but has the emissions stuff, which tuners can take care of.
It is also a maintance heavy motor so you need to be able to check and change fluids yourself or you will go broke.

I really cannot comment to much on the 6.7, I don't think there is much out on it yet for tuners but with 800 ft. lbs of TQ I don't think you need to do much more to it.

Historically, it seems that the first model year of any new diesel that ford releases, there have been problems. When they switched from the 7.3 the first 6.0 was a mess then to the new 6.4, that seemed to be not quite a mess, but there were still a number of issues. When I bought my 2010 6.4 a few months ago, I bought the 6.4 over the 6.7 with that in mind. Not that it was my primary reason, but it weighed heavily on why I chose the 6.4 over the 6.7.

If you've got the money get a 6.7...in the unlikely event it's as bad as the early 6.0s just have it lemoned...but leave it stock as 400/800 is not worth messing with and if you plan to use your truck like a truck (tow, haul) then it'll last longer in stock form. and also you won't lose your warranty. Buy a 350 for extra pin weight and hauling capability.

If you want to race people at the lights in something that can pull a trailer, buy one of the new 500bhp Range Rovers or an X5M.

If you really want to tune a motor, get a 6.4 and go with Spartan system. You can get loads of power for about $3K.

Test drive a 6.7. The only thing wrong with it is that you can't hear it so somebody that wants to have a loud diesel clatter will be unhappy with it. But, that's a strange reason to not want that motor.

The 6.0 is a nice motor but I have not driven one, you will need to do heavy mods to beef it up if you want reliable power. But, of the three, the 6.0 has the "sound" most folks want, loud turbo, kinda loud exhaust note, good at laying out black smoke.

My money (business) is on the 6.7 right now. I am absolutely giddy with this motor and transmission. Truly amazing feel and power. A 6.4 with a good tune is probably very close to it though.

I have a 07 F350 Lairet CC SRW with only 22000 miles for sale if your interested. It has been rock solid.

The 07 6.0L had fewer warranty claims than the best 7.3L

The only thing I can say about the 6.4L is that when the fueling system goes due to bad fuel, filters, water, the whole engine tends to go BANG

If your interested PM me

I would not tounch a 6.4 for love or money. the only way I would take a free one is if I know I could turn a profit on resale.
as far as the whole engine going bang with bad fuel that not really the case but your wallet will fell like it did. $10k+ for a customer pay fuel system rebuild.

As a mastertech do you recommend doing anything other than regular oil/filter changes on the 07 6.0L

Is all this I hear about the coolant filter worth it?

I dont run a coolant filter at this point for my own reasons, mostly because Im no longer flash boiling coolant.
I will say it cant hurt anything to do so.
Maintace and more of it. Ive had great luck with mine

I think the maintance and more of it is the key here. I am constantly under my hood looking it over, checking fluids watching for anything out of the ordinary.

My 6.4 has been great. I change the oil every 5k miles religiously with Shell Rotela full synthetic and Motorcraft filter. I change my fuel filters every 15k miles religiously with Motorcraft filters. I check my coolant level about once a month. My engine doesn't "grow" oil. I don't let the engine idle for long periods of time. Mine is three years old and still going strong.

The biggest drawback I have heard about the 6.4 is if you think the 6.0 is hard to work on, you ain't seen nothin yet.

Hopefully you don't have to. Time will tell.
