brake/engine problems

my f700 suddenly shuts down while driving. the electric brake motor light comes on and a beeping buzzer sounds. quick clutch, let the rpm's drop, and restart on the go solves the engine shut down, but during this time i have little braking and steering power of course. does not help when you are hauling 34 000 lbs in city traffic. i've gone all though my service manual and it's no help, unless i want to replace every thing. if any one can piont me at the #@$%^%$# part that is causing this. thanks

Check fuel pickup--is there a screen or filter in the tank that could get clogged, and then clear up when the engine dies?

Any non-metal lines that could collapse?

Fuel filter clean, not clogged? Even if new?

Water separator cleared, if you have one.

no filter in the tanks, but the pirimary filter is clean and the secondary filter/water seperator is also clean. the only non metal fuel line is double briaded hydraulic line. sorry first thing i thought of was the fuel delivery system. all checks out clean. the problem happen when it happens.. checked out rough roads looking for lose electrial doesn't matter if i'm on rough or smooth road. it's like something is geting to hot (electically) i'm new to cummins, i've dealt with alot of deisels befor but they are all old school. their has to be a sensor or something that is causing this because it is so random. i can drive for 2 days without a problem, then have 4 shutdowns in one day. drive hard, drive right, drive like i stole it, does cause the problem to repeat. now that winter is coming i need this beast to run right. any other info i can give you just ask, i build offroad machines for a living so i am not ignorant. just this has me stumped. if it was a inline 6 or a 350 done like dinner yeaterday with no sweat.
rake you brain around it and give me a clue...thanks

What about fuel pressure? The lift pumps on those years are prone to dying.

THere is a sticker on my 94's driver side visor that states it will shut the engine off for low oil pressure, low coolant level, or high coolant temp.

check yours to see if you truck has these safty cut offs.

Sounds to me like a defective ignition module. The three step scenario of a failing ignition module:

1) Module overheats, engine dies. Module cools down, engine re-starts almost at once.

2) Module overheats, engine dies. Module cools down, engine re-starts in an hour...or so.

3) Module overheats, BURNS OUT. Now the engine will not re-start.

Failing ignition modules are a common occurence on FoMoCo vehicles...especially the POS TFI module that mounts on the dizzy.

Ford was forced by the NHTSA to recall FIVE MILLION vehicles with this POS TFI module about ten years ago.
