Hey folks, I have a 99 F250 excab, with the 5.4l. I am in the market for an after market exhaust system. I was looking into a good cat back setup, but not sure on a few things. Im looking for a single out, and would like it to sound pretty good. Im leaning towards Flowmaster but not sure on which series yet. My cat is plugged so I was thinking about not even running one, anyones thoughts.

 

I am no expert on aftermarket exhaust on a gas engine so I cannot help much here. I know there is a company right here in MN called Heartthrob I believe. I would check them out as an option. Where are you located?

 

I am no expert either on this but I guess the question is how loud do you want it? That may determine wether or not you want a cat on or not. The place Jay mentioned is located in Litchfield but you can get there systems alot of places on the net. They can install at there factory also if you want. Here is there website Heartthrob Exhaust. I am not sure how there prices stack up against Flowmaster though. I had there exhaust on my '67 Camaro and it sounded great and there quality was great also!

 

I would suggest you keep that cat in there. Without one, or plugged like it is (which I have a hard time believing) will throw O2 codes and keep your check engine light on. What I would do in your situation is run duals with a Magnaflow X-Pipe Muffler in the middle. I would also get that cat replaced.

I'm in Duluth also.... go down to Big Daddy's down in West Duluth. They'll do a good job and are decently priced. Up in Hermantown at the new place that took over the old Radco building (across from Gander Mtn., I forget the new name) they were advertising 200.00 dual exhaust about a month ago. I would check with them also.

 

Hey thanks. Ya, I was aware of the O2 codes and light but, just in the planning stages now. I will check it out. I was thinking of a 2 1/4 in and 3" out. If duals, should I keep the stock pipe size? Im looking for a good sound, not super loud, but a cool deep sound, but my main concern I guess is it see's a fair share of towing, so would like to kinda get the total package.

You can eliminate the cats and get a sensor that plugs into the O2 spot to trick the comp. into thinking they are there and ok. Just a thought if you want to go that route.

 

if your looking for loud just run right off the manifolds right out BEHIND the front tire, haha.
