Well I got a new camper, its a piggy-back... sits in the bed of my 1994 F-250 351 4WD Extended Cab Long Bed. The camper weighs in at about 3500-3700 pounds. I am buying air bags to put in the back to help with the added weight. The other thing im going to do to give me a little more power is true dual exhaust. I am going to get rid of the single cat, and everything after it. I live in NY, and still have to pass emissions, so I want to just run cats. My question is can anyone recommend some good after market cats, that aren't going to restrict flow to much, but not rust out in a year? I am pretty sure that the stock pipes going into the cat now are 3 inch, so I guess I am gonna have 3 inch into the cats, then probably reduce it to 2.5-2.75 inch pipe. Any other little things I can do to get a little more bang out my engine without going crazy and swaping rears, or a cam, or anything nuts.
not to change the subject but i see it says you live in alfred? i lived in dansville ny about a half hour from alfred for the first 18 years of my life, in fact almost went to alfred state for their automotive program. anyways, yes i would consider air bags in the rear or a set of regular air shocks. and i would personally remove the entire factory exhaust and have an exhaust shop run true dual 2 1/2" pipe right off the manifold all the way back. consider and h or x junction in there if you want to reduce the crackling and raspiness. and for high flow cats magnaflow makes a really good high effeciency cat.
I am originally from Long Island, but am going to Alfred State for Welding... I drove through dansville all the time haha. Yep thats the firs thing im doing, ripping the original exhaust off and runnning str8 pipes!
I have pacesetter shorties. They are nice, gave me some power when coupled with a custom y-pipe. Long tubes are better though. They are more work to install though, you have to make a new y-pipe. Hooker makes nice longtubes for these trucks, so does Hedman and Flowtech. I have heard about clearance issues with the Flowtechs and automatic trannies though. Summit has a lot of good headers. Just make sure they have a nice thick flange (prevents warping) and get a good set of copper gaskets. The gaskets headers come with are ussually paper things that burn out real quick and leak. Good luck, if you get headers they will not dissapoint you.
3,500-3,700lbs,Thats a heavy camper!.....You are gonna need the air-bags, think about helper springs too. Headers and exhaust will help too, that will be enough power to move that camper around with authority.
