No flywheel on an automatic. You got a flexplate.
You proboly have the wrong starter. No 390 in 66 Only 352s.
I would take the starter back and make them refund your cash.

I believe I read one of Bill's post saying only one starter for the FE. That would be a 3 bolt, most of the others have 2 bolts.

Truck came with a 352, but a 390 surely could have been transplanted, starter is same for both.

Are the bolt holes lining up? Flip may be on to something you may have the wrong starter.

Yes the 3 bolts lined up.I'd like to blame starter, but not knowing what motor is or transmission is maybe wrong flexplate.Meaning maybe 352 with 289 flex plate?I can fix it by grinding nose cone and 1/8 inch off starter drive teeth.SO if there is only one 3 bolt starter and only 1 size flexplate I'll try another starter. thank you gentleman for your help.

My 1966 F100 has this VIN #F10YR802876 which when I decode it means it
has a 360 motor. My son gave me the truck and he says the person that
owned it before him said it had a 360. If it was a transplanted motor would the VIN number be changed?

Just curious as everyone says there are no 360 motors in 1966 F100s

In 1966 the Y would indicate a 352 2V. The 360 was not available from Ford until 1968. If you have a 360 it would have to be a transplant. And, no, your VIN doesn't change if the engine is swapped out.

Ford FE engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In 1968 the Y would indicate a 360 2V. You have to be in the right year to have the correct context for decoding.

360 = Y in VIN

Thanks for the info TA

When I look in the LMC truck catalogue under 1961-66 Vehicle Identification

under engine code there is no "Y" so I went over to the 1967-72 and found

a "Y" and with the info from the previous owners I figured that in San Jose,

California someone must have been ahead of time with a 360 and stuck it

in my truck. It has been confusing when ordering parts and not sure where

I am now.
