1985 F 350 460 Manual Flywheel

I recently bought a non-running 1985 F350 with a 460 engine and manual transmission. It had a new looking starter on it but would grind and not turn the engine when I tried to start it. I took the starter off and looked at the flywheel which looked very good actually except for the top of a couple of teeth which had been ground down. The starter had a 9 tooth pinion. I took the starter to my local starter rebuild shop and had a 10 tooth pinion installed and now the starter engages and turns the engine as it should.

I researching flywheel sizes, I find that there are both 176 and 184 tooth manual flywheel versions for 460 engines. My question is what are the applications for the 176 and 184 tooth versions?

In my situation, I believe that I have a 176 tooth flywheel that mated with the 10 tooth pinion and a 184 tooth flywheel would mate with a 9 tooth flywheel.

Can anybody share some information regarding flywheel sizes/applications?
Thanks, Jim P.

E3TZ-6375-B .. Flywheel ~ 460 M/T 1983/ non EFI

D7TZ-6384-A .. Flywheel Ring Gear ~ 460 M/T 1983/89; Same as: 1977/82 351M/400 M/T. 180 tooth ring gear.

Source: 1980/89 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog. Section 60.7 / Page 8.

E3TZ-6375-B flywheel has been updated by Ford to a new part number. Sorry, I do not have the new part number. Contact one of our FTE sponsor Ford parts dealers for assistance. Both give discounts to FTE members. The sponsors are DIRECTFORDPARTS and y2kfordparts.

Since the Ford parts catalog only lists ONE Flywheel ring gear for a 460 with a Manual Transmission, and that ring gear has 180 teeth, any reference from other sources besides FoMoCo to other tooth count flywheel ring gears is WRONG!

Repeat = There are NO references to 176 or 184 tooth 460 Manual Transmission flywheels in the Ford parts catalog, because there aren't any.
