Delete Vent Windows

Hi all,

Anyone have experience with deleting the vent windows on the 57-60's? I noticed on (I think) Mac's that they sell a kit that includes everything. I'm not a fan of the vent windows and wasn't looking forward to rebuilding mine since everything is in such bad shape. Since I have to replace ALL the glass in my truck anyway, why not go 1 piece in the doors I say.
Is there any downside to going with this option? Am I missing something that will make me regret this later?

Thanks,

Nick in WI

I did it on my 55.. like the look. but, pay attention to the body shape at the door edge lip ... there is a small indent (on the 53-56) where the vent window upright is.. if you fix this before paint it is SO much better than after..

Sdetweil,
I'm not sure if my 60's has any indents. I'll have to look tonight.
Any regret with deleting the vent window?
Thanks for the tip,
Nick

I would have told I didn't have the indents.... (wrong!)

no regrets, looks great.. now, its not a driver (booooo).. so I don't know what the long time drive feel is like.. (enough air, etc)..

you also will NOT get the slower speed air flow from flipping the windows all the way around.. if that matters..

I have A/C so not usually a problem..

air flow...

I didn't think about flipping the windows around to direct air in. That is nice when cruising in hot temps. My truck has the footwell vents on each side but those probably don't flow much unless I'm really moving along.
(I'm not sure because I didn't drive it but 1 mile after the purchase before tearing it all apart.)
I'm not installing airconditioning during the restoration.

I would only delete the wing window if you really like the look and have A/C
I have a 56 without A/C and using the wing windows to direct air into the cab on hot days is great.

I wish trucks still had vent windows, I always loved them under 45mph. The seals can be finicky after some use though.

I prefer the vent windows especially if you're not installing AC. Not only does it provide great ventilation, but also gives the look of an older truck. I was disappointed when manufacturers stopped making them.. It's your truck, make yourself happy and do it your way.

I would have cooked driving my 49 cross country years ago without vent windows and the cowl vent. I am putting AC in Willard but am retaining both the vent windows and the cowl vent.

I was going to do the same thing. I ordered one piece glass from Vintage something or other to do it. The glass wasn't even close to the right size and after runaround and filing a claim with my CC company I finally got my money back. After that I went back to stock. As I recall there are only a few places offering 1 piece for 57 -60. Good luck with yours I hope you have better luck than I did!
