P0305 - Cylinder #5 Misfire Detected
Hello, recently purchased a '06 F250 6.0 in AZ and brought up here to ND with me and have now got 105k on it and my check engine light came on with the code being P0305 - Cylinder #5 Misfire Detected. The truck seems to start and idle fine but seems to be lacking lower end power until the turbo finally kicks in and it also is showing signs of the white smoke at the stop lights. What is the common fix or do I have an injector problem?

P0305 indicates a misfire, it doesn't specify the source. I had that code and it was a bad injector. White smoke indicates unburnt fuel if it smells like diesel and not coolant. If it smells like diesel, I'd have the compression checked on #5 and if its good you most likely need an injector.

I might have found the cause but don't know if it's the answer. I borrowed my truck to a friend who just jumped in and turned the key. He only started the truck twice. It was the next use that the light came on. I also just installed an auto start and car stereo so I had the key on/off quite a few times throughout the install. So, I just got back from a short cruise and put about 20 miles on. It was smoking for about the first two miles and then it appeared to clear up. I also reset the code so I'm hoping it was something this simple but plan on taking it out again tmw and see how it acts.
