They've never worked since I got the truck about 2-3 years ago. Um, I did have the column rebuilt b/c it wouldn't go into gear! But it didn't work to begin with.
Should I replace that ign switch on the column that the big rod runs into?
What year is the truck? Tilt or not? Is there a tiny notch in the column just below the lock cylinder (where the key goes) with a tiny hole & a pin in it? Does the steering wheel lock with the key out?
If it's tilt, it has the notch. I just asked that because of all the people I've encountered who don't know their column is a tilt. That pin will release the lock cylinder if the key is in the RUN position.
It's possible to assemble the little rack&pinion for the ignition pushrod so that the key won't go all the way back. I'd complain to whoever rebuilt it.
I've "rebuilt" those columns and that's definitely something that should have been fixed when they "rebuilt" it. Of course, if they just "broke something so it would shift", they might not have had anything to do with the key problem...
about the rack being able to be installed incorrectly. I had to replace the acuator rod in my 91 F150 w/tilt. Its not hard to do, just time consuming and you need an extra set of hands to keep things in place when reinstalling the springs for the tilt. Hope this helps.
