Ignition Switch Problems on F=1

Stock switch's three terminals are marked: Rad "GA"/Coil/AM

I've hooked the battery wire to each of the terminals to try to separate the Acc. and the Ignition coil but I cannot make it work.

One way I can hook it up to get the acc. but when I turn the key to the other side it connects to acc. and coil at the same time.

The center position is dead.

Hope the description good enough but I am stumped.

Hoping for confirmation on my results before I call Dennis C..

Thanks,
TractormanBill

Rad GA = radio & gauges (accessories)
Coil = ignition
AM = ammeter (battery feed)

That's normal for both Acc and Ign to be hot in the Run position.

Just wired an f1. The diagram above can be misleading if you look at the pic and wire the switch as the orientation of the posts on the switch don't match the diagram. Electrically yes but not visually. Battery feed goes to the longest post, coil goes to the one marked coil and gauges to the other terminal. No need to separate the accessories and coil.

Thanks gearhead 1952.
I just decided wire it the way I wanted to.
Coil & electric fuel pump to coil terminal.
Radio to acc.
All else to long terminal or I think this is how I wired it.
Will check again tomorrow.

Note that Tractorman has a '52. As far as the ignition switch wiring, using the 48-50 diagram doesn't matter. For that matter, the 51-52 diagrams don't even show the ignition switch. But there are differences that matter, like the starter button (also not shown...).

Note also that anything connected to the ignition switch like original is not protected by ANY fuses/circuit breakers. At a minimum I'd add in-line fuses for the radio and heater fan, electric wipers if you have them, and a circuit breaker for the fuel pump.

I don't know if this will help or not, but it definitely shows the ignition switch...

You may have to enlarge it to read it.

Interesting, Joe; it shows the 48-50 starter button (single terminal) and solenoid. But at least it shows them!

My truck has the single terminal starter button and solenoid. Did they change for 52? The diagram says it's for 51 and 52.

It does not show the options like turn signals or cigar lighter. But it does show everything else. I used this to rewire my truck. But I added a fuse panel and removed the 30A and 15A circuit breakers. I also added a head light relay to save the switch from that current draw.

I thought it was a '51 change on the starter switch, must be '52. A lot of the changes in '52 were for the OHV 6.

Doesn't show the heater fan or electric wipers, both optional.

I guess I should have said it shows the standard wiring but no options.

But I used it and some other diagrams to rewire the truck using the correct wire gauge and color codes.
